Whooping Cough Pertussis Epedemic Continues
The California Department of Public Health has noted that whooping cough illnesses continue in California. SanDiego city schools district now requires proof of immunization before students will be allowed to register for the upcoming 2011 term in September.
The CDC and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recommend that most adolescents and adults get a single dose of the whooping cough vaccine, also called "Tdap" vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis).
Tdap vaccinations are available at the Burns Drugs walk-in clinic.
